Accepting these terms

By downloading or using Curioo you agree to these terms and to Apple’s standard licence agreement (EULA). If you do not agree with them, do not use the app. They are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.

What Curioo is

Curioo is an educational application covering 1,632 idiomatic expressions in French, English and Spanish, with their meaning, origin, usage and cross-language equivalents, plus 12 game modes built around them.

Etymology is rarely settled. Where several accounts of an expression’s origin exist, the app presents the most widely supported one. Curioo is a learning aid, not an academic reference.

Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Curioo on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not:

• Copy, extract or redistribute the expression corpus, the illustrations, or the audio, in whole or in substantial part.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except where that right cannot lawfully be excluded.
• Resell, sublicense or rent access to the app or to a Premium subscription.
• Circumvent the technical measures that separate free content from Premium content.

Intellectual property

The Curioo name, the owl mascot, the interface, the illustrations and the editorial content of the corpus are protected and remain ours or our licensors’. The idiomatic expressions themselves belong to the languages that produced them; our rights cover the selection, the wording of the definitions, the illustrations and their arrangement.

Curioo Premium

Curioo is free to download and a substantial part of it stays free forever: the expression of the day, the daily journey, your streak, badges, favourites, search, the widgets, the app icons and the first 2 levels of every game.

Curioo Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription:

• Price and duration. Both are shown in the app, in your local currency, on the screen where you confirm the purchase — and you are never charged before that confirmation.
• Free trial and offers. When a free trial or a promotional offer is available, its length and conditions are shown on that same screen. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are not charged.
• Billing. Payment is taken by Apple through your Apple Account when you confirm, or at the end of the free trial.
• Automatic renewal. The subscription renews for the same period unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the period.
• Cancelling. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and turn off renewal — or go straight to your subscriptions page. You keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
• Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refund requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.

Availability and changes

We add expressions, games and features over time, and we may change or withdraw parts of the app. If a change removes something material from an active Premium subscription, you may cancel and seek a pro-rata refund through Apple. We do our best to keep the content delivery network available, but cannot guarantee it.

Liability

Curioo is provided as-is, for learning and entertainment. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from its use. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including your statutory rights as a consumer.

Ending the agreement

You can end this agreement at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend access if the licence terms above are breached in a way that harms the service or other users.
